Georgetown, Penang – Thursday 5th February 2015

Georgetown is the capital of Penang in Malaysia and was named after Britain’s King George III. The name ‘Penang’ comes from the modern Malay name ‘Pulau Pinang’ which means island of the areca nut palm. Penang is often called ‘the Pearl of the Orient’ or ‘the Island of Pearls’.

We didn’t go ashore as we have been here several times before so we had a lazy day and as it wasn’t so hot today (only 85f/29c at 11.00am…phew) I took some sun for an hour, after keeping out of it while I was ill (yes feeling much better now)…I need to top up my tan again.

We had a fabulous meal at the Grill tonight…our friend Graham (Executive Chef) had joined the ship in Singapore and arranged for us to be able to have proper English cut chips (not French fries) at any of the evening restaurants. So I had Australian lamb chops, chips and greens (take note Paul, I’m eating my greens!!…private joke..) and Vance had steamed salmon, chips and veg. Absolutely delicious…eating a fabulous meal, washed down with the odd glass or three of wine, outside in the balmy evening, under the stars…what more could a girl wish for…

Then we found out that the clocks go back one hour tonight (they had gone forward since we left Cape Town) …bliss an extra hours sleep…(so we are now back to 7 hours ahead of UK time)…what a wonderful day…
