Fort Lauderdale : Sunday 6th January 2013 : Day Zero
After an excellent and uneventful (luckily for Vance) flight from Heathrow terminal 5 to Miami we sailed through immigration and customs in a record breaking 25 minutes to find our private limo waiting for us outside the airport. Fifty minutes later we arrived at The Atlantic Hotel in Fort Lauderdale and were shown to our 11th floor king sized ocean view suite.
As we only had hand luggage – our main luggage having previously gone ahead to the port terminal we quickly changed into casual clothes and strolled along the beachside prom in the early evening sunshine looking for somewhere to eat….our choice was a pizza and a cold beer…bliss.
After an early night because our body time was five hours ahead we were first in the queue for a 7am American breakfast which was huge and we left probably left more than we ate. After breakfast we crossed the road to the beach and paddled our way along the shoreline in the early morning sun.
At 12:30 our driver arrived to take us to our Home From Home for the next 61 days…The Seabourn Quest.
Our luggage was waiting for us in our suite so after an alfresco lunch including a very nice Chablis at the Colonnade we had the usual task of unpacking and finding space for all our clothes.
At 5pm we had the essential lifeboat drill then it was up to the pool deck for a sail-away party after which we left on time at 7pm.
Down to the main restaurant for a quick meal where we “bagged” Ralph and Mark’s favourite table (ha ha!!) as they don’t join us until Sydney (we promise to give it back to you blokes when you arrive….maybe!!)
Then it was back to our suite for a well deserved early night.
