Oranjestad – Aruba

Saturday 12th January 2013

8am arrival  in Oranjestad (Orangetown) the capital of Aruba. The captial was named after William Of Orange the first heir to the Dutch House Of Orange.

It’s raining…again…hope it clears by 9am as we are going out on a catamaran to snorkel the reef and to visit Palm Beach.

Breakfast on the Colonnade and yes it’s still raining so we all went down to the pier to join the catamaran and stood about in the rain waiting for it to arrive…luckily under Seabourn umbrellas.

After boarding the boat we sailed up the coast of Aruba supposedly relaxing in the sun on the open deck – in fact we huddled together under the small covered deck wrapped in beach towels trying to keep warm…we have photos to prove it.

Fun Fun Fun

After about half an hour the rain stopped but it was still overcast although the air temperature was now in the high seventies.

When we arrived at the snorkel reef most people donned their snorkel kit and went off the back of the boat to swim over the reef. As I was staying on board (hate snorkelling) I was able to have a few rum cocktails…I said it was only to keep me warm …but it definitely made the day seem better. However within 20 minutes everyone was back on board – the water was too cold and there was little to see in the water because of the local rains and winds…Vance was not impressed….nor were any of the other guests.

We then sailed to the local Palm Beach where we had an hour ashore. The sun came out and I could indulge in my favourite activity – paddling … in the now warmer waters.

The trip back down the coast to The Quest was wonderful as we were finally able to enjoy the beautiful coastline of Aruba in the sun.

Sky news which we get on our in-suite television has just said that there would be snow at home in the UK…glad to be here!!…it might rain but at least it’s warm rain!!

Clocks went back an hour tonight so we are now back to 5 hours behind UK time.
